Pine Campbell has a passion for language revitalisation, and sustainable environmental practices. Pine co-founded Tioro in 2000 to promote waste minimisation by Xtreme Waste in Raglan. Pine later moved to Hamilton to build a Maori Language School using the Te Ataarangi method.
"My language came from the environment,” says Pine.
He designed all his classes on looking after this environment. Facilitating the Enviro schools and Te Ahoturoa programme from 2005 to 2011 and Para Kore from it's inception has allowed Pine to 'walk his talk" in support of the environment and Te Reo Maori.
Tioro Educational Tools is a Maori Language Learning Community for the Environment, based here in Tokomaru Bay. Their brief is to facilitate Maori language learning within an Environmental context. Looking further in to the context for the environment they unpack kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga and rangatiratanga as the foundations for its health and in fact the health of the people.
Pine continues to facilitate the Para Kore programme on Marae, Kura and Kohanga Reo in the Tairawhiti.
As a facilitator Pine weaves his practical and academic knowledge for the environment with a particular focus on a student led approach for sustainability and longevity.
